New Polaroid DVD Recorders Deliver Ease-of-Use and High-Quality Personal Video Creation by Incorporating YesDVD and LSI Logic Technologies
YesVideo and LSI Extend Partnership through New, Innovative DVD Recorder Feature
MINNEAPOLIS – April 18, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- Polaroid Corporation, YesVideo,
Inc., and LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that they have
collaborated to incorporate YesDVD technology into Polaroid's newest line
of DVD recorders. Enabled by the LSI DoMiNo(R) media processor, Polaroid's
combination hard disc drive/DVD recorder with YesDVD software makes it easy
for consumers to create Hollywood-style DVDs from their home movies at the
touch of a button. The new Polaroid DRM-2001G DVD recorder is available at
Wal-Mart stores, the world's largest retail company.
"Including YesDVD and LSI technologies in the Polaroid DVD recorder
adds tremendous value to our product," said Jim Koestler, director of
product development, Polaroid. "DVDs have always been an excellent way to
enjoy commercial or home movies. Now consumers will have the option to
convert their precious memories to high-quality DVDs that are fun to watch
or share with generations to come," Koestler concluded.
Building on Polaroid's strength in preserving memories, the Polaroid
DRM-2001G DVD recorder with YesDVD technology is designed to make it easy
for consumers to transfer personal videos to DVD while preserving and
enhancing the quality of the video. The Polaroid recorder includes
automatic production of YesDVD discs that feature professional onscreen DVD
menus with intelligently-selected chapters and picture thumbnails for easy
navigation. Highlights of the best moments on the disc are used to
automatically create music videos.
YesDVD software, enabled by the LSI DoMiNo media processor, uses
state-of-the-art scene detection software to determine the natural chapter
points and find the first clear image in the video segment to represent
that chapter. Once the YesDVD is created on the Polaroid unit, the disc can
be placed in the DVD-ROM drive of the consumer's PC to print a color DVD
case coversheet for a visual index that makes it easy to locate the correct
video in home libraries.
"Home movies stored on VHS tape or camcorder cassettes have finite
life," said Greg Ayres, COO of YesVideo. "Authorities on the subject of
magnetic videotape media state that tapes can significantly degrade in as
few as fifteen years. Through this relationship with Polaroid and LSI, we
are enabling consumers to automatically create a professionally-featured
DVD from their home movies that provides a better way to view them, share
them, and organize them."
The Polaroid DRM-2001G DVD recorder incorporates high-quality video
processing capabilities enabled by LSI silicon. The line of DoMiNo DVD
recorder processors consists of full-featured, highly integrated DVD
recorder solutions that address worldwide requirements. Driving continued
market growth, the DoMiNo processors enable approximately 45% of the DVD
recorder market and include unique features such as the YesDVD software and
proprietary processing capabilities that enable clearer video, particularly
when transferring analog content, like VHS tapes, to DVD discs.
"LSI is helping improve the consumer experience by working with
companies like Polaroid and YesVideo to deliver easy-to-use, high-quality
products," said Neil Bullock, senior strategic marketing manager for the
Consumer Products Group, LSI Logic. "With our system-level approach and
market leadership, LSI continues to deliver innovative features that
augment the consumer benefits of DVD recorder products."
