Both Super 8 and 8mm films are 8 millimeters in width, but Super 8 film offers a sharper image with high-definition and audio capability, which is why it used to be a prime choice for Hollywood filmmakers. 16mm film offers double the width, which means it allows for more detail.

The easiest option is to hold up the film in front of a light source and use a magnifying glass to view film reels, but that is impractical, especially if you want to share your memories with others. Another option is to use a vintage film editor to illuminate and view the film reels. However, the best option is to digitize your film for easy viewing on your DVD player, computer, hard drive, or smartphone.

The transfer price for your custom order includes a Digital Copy and MemoryCloud access, where you can view, download, order copies, and save your memories to Google Photos.

In addition, our service includes cleaning, splicing, and scratch reduction as necessary, which ensures your original copies and the memories they contain are secure and protected.

Yes! Your original media and containers will be returned with your completed order.

You will receive your completed order in about 3 weeks (includes processing and return shipping) from the time we receive your media; it will include your originals and any Digital Download, USB, or DVD you ordered.

Film reels are typically labeled by size and can be estimated by diameter:
  • 3" Film Reel ≈ 50 feet
  • 4" Film Reel ≈ 100 feet
  • 5" Film Reel ≈ 200 feet
  • 6" Film Reel ≈ 300 feet
  • 7" Film Reel ≈ 400 feet
  • 8" Film Reel ≈ 600 feet
  • 10" Film Reel ≈ 800 feet
If you're unsure, it’s okay. We only charge for the footage successfully transferred, and you’ll be notified of any adjustments.
We don’t have the tools and means to show you your film reel as it is, but you can view it after the transfer process. We professionally clean, inspect, and digitize your footage, so you can relive the memories in digital clarity even without a projector.
We accept reels in a variety of conditions, and our technicians perform cleaning and repair (including splicing) as part of the service. If your film is too damaged to process, we’ll notify you and you won’t be charged for unusable footage.
Of course! You can select Digital Download, USB drive, DVD, or a combo package. You’ll also receive free MemoryCloud access to view and share your digitized reels anytime, anywhere.
Your film is scanned using high-resolution equipment that captures details as clearly as possible from your original footage. We also include scratch reduction during the transfer to preserve and enhance film quality.
Absolutely. You can label your reels before shipping and we’ll keep those labels in the file names or chapters of your digital copy.
Standard 8mm and many Super 8 films are silent, but if your Super 8 or 16mm film includes a magnetic audio track, we can transfer it along with the video when detected.
Your footage will be transferred as-is, preserving the full length and content of each reel. We'll improve the film quality as much as we can, but aside from that, we won't make any edits. If you choose the Enhanced Content upgrade, you’ll receive a curated Highlight Reel and Intelligent Snapshots for easier sharing.
Absolutely. YesVideo is a trusted name in media preservation, and your film is tagged, tracked, and monitored 24/7 throughout the process. We also digitally back up your order for 60 days, giving you extra peace of mind.
